High Power Laser Cables

XSOF™ manufactures quality, high-power laser cables to suit a variety of applications. We customize designs to meet your application needs. Our HP cables are used in operations such as marking, engraving, and welding. Our specialty is delivering solutions that fit your unique requirements. Power, wavelength range, AR coatings, cladding mode stripping, heat dissipation, and environmental concerns are all taken into account when we help create your design.

High-Power Laser Delivery Cables

HP2.5 High-Power Fiber Optic Termination

The HP2.5 consists of the fiber fused to a beam-expanding end cap which is then fused to the silica capillary tube. This structure creates an epoxyless, all silica, easy-to-clean termination that is non-absorbing and eliminates problems associated with free-standing fiber tip designs. Modestripping occurs inside the transparent ferrule, dumping residual pump power and giving protection against mis-coupled or back-reflected light.

This type of end cap is ideal for high-power SM/PM LMA fibers, fiber lasers and diode pump applications. You can order just the fiber/end cap/capillary tube assembly, or it can be packaged into FC, Cu SMA, or TD-80.

Cables & Connectors

Stainless SMA Air Gap

The stainless steel SMA 905 and Air Gap SMA 905 is a connector style common in Medical applications and general laser coupling. This product was one of the first “power-connector” types developed. It may be decades old in design, but that design is reliable and working even today.

Copper SMA

Take the ubiquitous SMA 905 and make it out of a proprietary copper alloy to promote machinability, robustness and heat conduction and you get the Copper SMA which we have been providing for nearly 20 years! This type of connector is also available as a free-standing air gap.

Copper TD-80

Need more heat management than the Cu SMA can provide? We developed the Cu TD-80 format to do just that. With a 4mm barrel diameter, this connector can handle almost twice the heat that the Cu SMA can.

End Capping

All Glass Fused End

The HP2.5 splices the fiber to a beam-expanding end cap which is fused to the outer ferrule. This epoxyless, easy-to-clean termination is non-absorbing and eliminates problems associated with free-standing fiber tip designs.

Modestripping occurs inside the transparent ferrule, dumping residual pump power and giving protection against mis-coupled or back-reflected light.

The glass-fused end is ideal for high-power fiber laser and diode pump applications. You can order the end-cap alone, or have it packaged into one of our FC, Cu SMA, or TD-80 assemblies.

Cladding Mode Strippers

When power is high and energy is injected into the cladding, it should be stripped before it enters the cable proper or the cable could be destroyed. This operation requires a Cladding Mode Stripper (CMS).

CMS are a section of fiber surrounded by other suitable materials to prevent guiding in the cladding and thereby forcing the dumping of that unwanted energy. While they are primarily useful on the input side, they can also be useful on output to enable effective collimating or focusing.

Water Cooling

As the power increases, so too does the amount of generated heat. When that happens, you’ll need an active cooling mechanism to protect your cables. XSOF™ has been doing active water cooling of end fittings for years and we can design and manufacture that suits your application.
