XSOF™ is one of the few companies today with years of experience packaging, sealing, end capping, polishing, and terminating Photonic Crystal Fibers or “Holey” Fibers (PCF), Hollow Core PCF (HCPCF), and many other specialty fibers benefiting from this type of end preparation. Included would be SM, SM/PM, LMA or MM Larger Core fibers. We’ve recently expanded our capabilities working with all these fiber types and our facilities are equipped with the tools to provide Fused-End or End-Capped facets polished to perfection. We can package any of these specialty preparations into real-world assemblies with a variety of end fittings.

Photonic Crystal Fiber Packaging

For production applications outside of the laboratory setting, PCF and HCPCF cables require some type of end capping, where the end of the fiber is sealed or packaged into a sealed fitting. Our team has both the latest technology and the knowledge to directly seal/collapse or perform end cap splicing on PCF or HCPCF, and then polish the end face of the fiber with excellent precision and control over the sealed/end cap length.

End Capping and Polishing

XSOF™ can perform end capping on many kinds of fibers, from SM to SM/PM to LMA or multimode (MM) or MM Large Core. Once the ends of fibers are capped, we also polish them, to focus energy through the end cap and reduce the energy density on the fiber facet. Precise polishing controls the length of the end cap required to make the focusing effective and with a finish that is pristine. Also, don’t worry if you need an angle polish or an AR coating–XSOF™ is equipped and experienced in a variety of different end-cap finishings.

Larger Format

At XSOF™, we can develop connectors for nearly any size fiber with excellent centration. When performance and/or power exceed the capabilities of Cu SMA or the Cu TD-80, when the power is high and the energy density is destroying fiber ends, even fused fiber ends, that is when tight tolerances and process control matter. We understand the importance of beam-expanding end caps when the application requires.
